Assessed across the areas of affordability, desirability, employer activity, rankings and student mix, the metropolis scored 329 out of a maximum 500. The annual survey by the U.K.-based global career and education network examines the merits of the top 50 cities for international students.
Taipei was described by the index as one of Asia’s leading higher education hubs. “The capital is home to eight universities ranked among the world’s best in the QS World University Rankings 2014 and 2015, led by the nation’s flagship public institute, National Taiwan University ranking 76th in the world.”
In addition, the survey found that tuition fees and living costs are relatively low in Taipei, making it one of the most affordable among the top 50 cities.
The top 10 metropolises in the index are Paris, Melbourne, London, Sydney, Boston and Hong Kong, equal fifth, Tokyo, Montreal, Toronto and Seoul. They were selected from a field of 116 and satisfy the two survey requirements for inclusion: a population of 250,000 and at least two internationally ranked universities.
Launched in 2012, the index is designed to help prospective international students choose from a growing number of study locations around the world. (DF-JSM)
